As some of will know, Redmile has two 'by-ways open to all traffic'; one which runs from the top of Church Lane to Long Lane, and another which runs from the end of Easthorpe Lane.
Before the lockdowns, (and, indeed, just before Christmas), these by-ways were frequently used by 'scrambler' motor bikes and four wheel drive vehicles, the latter late at night or very early morning, as off-road entertainment.... Read More »

Two of our local MPs, Alicia Kearns and Robert Jenrick, are campaigning to have the Vale of Belvoir recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) but, at the same time there is a planning application to cover over 74 hectares (over 183 acres, or 743,000 square metres) in solar panels (this does not take into account a second proposed solar farm between Muston and Bottesford).A key issue... One matter the Solar Farm application has highlighted is that wildlife sightings in this area are under-reported.
Leicester and Rutland Environmental Records Centre (LRERC) collect and collate details of the flora and fauna in the area and they use this information to inform the planning services about biodiversity. You can find the application, and the many supporting documents, on the Melton Borough Council website, reference 20/01182/FUL. Just type "Barkestone" into the search box and you will find it.

Please fill in the survey about the Solar Farm proposal. It will take a while to assess all the information in the planning application, but we do want to start to gather residents' initial views - difficult during the pandemic. The planning application has been submitted but is not yet validated by Melton Borough Council and so it is not on their website yet.

There will be a SOLAR FARM PROPOSAL EXHIBITION at Barkestone Hub on 24th and 25th October between 2.00 pm - 4.00 pm (same time as poppy sales) and on 31st October between 2.00 pm - 4.00 pm
The exhibition will provide information from the applicant as well as details of how to make your views known.
